Hannah worked in public schools for 5 years before transitioning to the clinical setting in 2017. Jennifer Smith, M.A., BCBA, LBA

Clinical Director

Jennifer embarked on her journey in behavior analysis in 2016, following her graduation from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with highest honors. In 2019, she achieved her Master of Arts in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of South Florida. Jennifer completed her supervised field work with a dual focus of treatment of autism spectrum disorder and organizational behavior management (OBM). She became a board certified behavior analyst in 2020.

Jennifer's mission is to enhance the lives of her pediatric learners and their families by applying the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Her practice style is characterized by her ability to identify each learner's in-the-moment motivation, using it to shape language development and skill acquisition seamlessly within play and daily routines. Jennifer joined Behavior Frontiers in 2021, after relocating to the Denver area from Austin, Texas. She has served as Clinical Director of the Denver/Boulder region since August 2023.

Ian McGarvey, M.A., BCBA

Regional Clinical Director

Ian McGarvey has been working in the field of ABA since 2011, starting as a behavior technician. Ian had intended on returning to graduate school for sport psychology but fell in love with working in the field both for the science and the clients. Ian graduated with his master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Ball State University in May of 2013, and became a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in the same month. Ian joined the Michigan Behavior Frontiers team in September 2023. Prior to Behavior Frontiers, Ian worked with various populations, both in traditional ABA settings as well as in one-on-one consulting settings. Ian has also worked in a clinical director capacity for the last 6 years, coaching both practicum students and BCBAs to be successful supervisors.

Regarding clients, Ian’s passions include early functional communication training, trauma informed and compassionate care, and implementation of skills-based treatment and universal protocols. Ian also takes passion in coaching and mentoring other BCBAs. Ian’s philosophy when overseeing ABA services is that all services are client-centered and client-led. Ian’s favorite quote comes from B.F. Skinner and Ogden Lindsley: “The learner is always right.” Our behavior is a product of our environment, and we always have control to modify our environment to make sure our client’s and staff’s needs are met to grow!
